Coach Handbags Picking Up Younger Crowd

According to massive.com younger women are turning to purchasing high end handbags like Coach for common use.  It seems that teens are not turning to $40 gap handbags and sweaters anymore.  They are not turning to $400 Coach Laptop bags and such.

Luxury brands such as Armani, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Coach are enjoying an explosion as teens adopt these brands into their everyday lives.

Even with the slowing economy luxury brand are up, the once $63 billion dollar luxury brand market has increased to a whopping sales topping $150 billion in 2006, according to CNN.  Teens have been seen to contribute to this whopping change.

Compared to a year ago, girls are now spending 11 percent more on luxury items.  In contrast to their overall spending on clothes, shoes and accessories, which has slipped three percent, according to the NPD Group.

And why should overall spending increase.  Luxury brand overall bring a certain status symbol to young ladies that are looking for attention.   They boast self esteem and just overall make them feel good.

This obsession has a price.  Retail analyst have for years stated that because young teens are becoming more obsessed with luxury brand, bread and butter brands like GAP are losing sales that were once strong for them.  As a result, in order for the teen to save money they opt to shop at low prices leaders like Target and Walmart.

But how did this fluke in the market become a reality.  Well, it was not a fluke.  It’s the genius of marketing companies for luxury brands like Dooney & Bourke, Chloe and Coach that target teen through teen magazines.  These magazines are riddled with advertisements with teens sporting the best and most expensive outfits on the market today.  Teens find themselves want to look and be the individuals that are in these advertisements.
